I just finished five more wave studies. I try to do these all in one day but I went a little over on time so these took a bit longer than normal.

Wave Demo In Palm City Process Shots

Hello Folks!

Last Wednesday I did a one hour Demo for the Palm City Art Associates in Palm City, Florida.
I love doing demos, and I think this one went particularly well. Seemed like everyone had a great time including me! Here are a few process shots and the demo below.

 I brought a finished painting with me and just demonstrated how I begin them.

 The size is 30 x 20 making it the largest demo I have ever painted.

  I was actually impressed with how far I took it in one hour. Doing a large wave in that much time is not easy.

Although the finished Demo is not complete enough to send to one of the galleries, I liked it to much to wipe it away. I will be putting it up for auction on Ebay at 10pm tonight starting at $100.00
The finished one will be going to one of the galleries and will retail for $6,500.00.

Large Wave Painting Demonstration

 I did another round of Wave Studies. Most of these were two hour studies this time. I find that the more I do these, the more I can get finished in one sitting.

 Number five turned out to be my favorite of this bunch. I was trying to do a few that were different from the last time I did this.

Summers are usually slow months so I am not planning on putting anymore of these up for auction for a while.

The more I paint waves, the slower I get. Some people might think the opposite is true. I definitely think that the more I paint them, the more efficient, I am, but not necessarily faster. The reason is that the more I paint them, the more subtle differences I see, and the more changes in value, and color.

All In A Days Work - Five Wave Paintings

One of the most important exercises a painter can do is to spend a day just practicing. It is so easy to get caught up in the details that we often forget to practice the start of a painting. One of my teachers uses to say one finished painting is worth a thousand starts. I decided to see how many wave paintings I could paint in one day.

I managed to get five done, all limited to an hour and a half.

  

I am posting them in the order in which they were painted. I think I got better as the day went on. Whenever I cut panels, there are always pieces left over. For some reason they always seem to be four inches wide. Of course I save them and they were beginning to stack up. This is a great way to use them!

 Below is number one. I started this at about 10:30am.

Number two was started at twelve thirty. Between each painting I cleaned my palette and brushes and added fresh paint.

Below is number three. I started it about 3pm. I took a bit of a break had lunch, etc.

 Number three might be my favorite. I have wanted to paint this one for a while now. These quick studies will all become larger paintings. Number one I am already working on an 18 x 32 of.

 Number four was probably the hardest of the bunch to paint. I almost didn't do this one. I thought it was too difficult to paint in an hour and a half.

Number Five was started at 6:30. I can't wait to make a large painting of this one. Some of the detail is hard to see in the small study. I added process shots of this one to show a timeline.

I am pleased to announce I am represented by Sirona Fine Art in Miami!

The director Tim, is a great guy - a New Yorker who also went to SVA. I also get to show with two friends of mine Dorian Vallejo, and Joe Lorusso, both who have been mentioned here before, and who make incredible paintings.



It is one of the largest galleries I have ever been in.
The size of the space and the layout are unbelievable.
I'm not sure if the photo below actually gives an accurate idea of size but in this photo, one of my 6 x 8's would be about the size of one of those lights on the ceiling.

I have six paintings in the gallery as of right now, all waves. I think all of them have been pictured in posts here before so I added shots of them framed.

Wave Painting Process Shots

 I did a quick sketch first on this wave, something I do not normally do on them. Because of the complexity of the breaking part, I wanted a bit more of an accurate drawing before I began painting.

I wound up covering every drawing line anyway but I think it was a good exercise.

It is 18 x 32, one of the bigger waves I have painted.
