Brie And Figs

SOLD
I always enjoy painting Figs but this is the first time I have tried one with the very dark background.
I was pleasantly surprised out how cool figs look on a dark background. I like to think of the figs as little universes or nebula, so I guess a dark background is fitting...Wish I'd thought of it sooner!

A Chorus Line Of Figs

I love painting Figs. Usually they are only in season during the summer and early fall.
I painted this one in September of last year but I have decided to make it available for purchase. The first fig painting I painted like this I sold in Australia during a workshop I was teaching in 2009. There are several different types of figs. The two dark colored figs are Brown Turkey, and Black Mission Figs. These are Black Mission Figs. Usually Black mission Figs are the standard blueish fig color. These looked like little solar systems to me and I immediately loved the colors of them.
I like the frame below but I can some people prefer gold or lighter frames so I have two options listed in the PayPal link.
The size is 6 x 12 oil on Panel.

The frame is an imported Larson Juhl molding. Top of the line frame. It would cost about twice that at a frame shop.

Framed $750.00
Unframed $650.00

Pomegranates & Figs

I love Pomegranates.....eating them I mean. As a former fat person, I love any food that is difficult to eat....it slows me down. Pomegranates are one of the most difficult and If you eat them one at a time, it can take hours!!! I thought it would be fun to paint several of them together. I also like Figs an Grapes so this just went perfectly together!

Figs!

The first panel is the "Black Mission Demo" panel. It shows a progression of the painting from the drawing stage, to the finish. The two figs in the middle are one sitting of painting and the last three figs are completed. The second panel is just a fig mini. I titled it "Black Mission Mini" because I thought it was cute. To me, the point of painting a bunch of figs lined up is to show them as small portraits. When there is nothing else going on in the painting, you have to look at the difference between each of the characters involved. I tried to pick the figs that were the most unique in some way from each other. There are several different types of fig. These are Brown Turkey Figs and Black Mission Figs. There is nothing in these paintings but figs. I see so many paintings of a bunch of apples or pears, or figs and each one in the painting is treated the exact same way. I think part of why is that most painters work on the whole painting at once working on all of the dark areas and then all of the middle areas etc.  I painted each fig one at a time and then cleaned my palette, forcing me to see new colors each time and not be tempted to use the same color on all of the figs. The changes are subtle, but if you look closely, you will see many differences in each fig.
